Officials debate giving FDA more power over drug labeling

The recent Vioxx scandal has started a whole new debate on the powers of the FDA. Officials are considering whether to give the FDA more authority over drug labeling or to revamp the entire system. At present, the FDA does not have the authority to request any specific changes on drug labels. They must work with the drug manufacturer to come up with something that is acceptable to both parties.
