The mission of the DRUG SAFETY INSTITUTE (DSI) is to enhance drug safety by decreasing the number of medication errors due to confusingly Similar brand/generic names for new drug products. DSI tests the safety of prospective brand names chosen by pharmaceutical manufacturers for submission during the FDA and EMEA approval processes by collecting and interpreting data from pharmacists, physicians, and nurses regarding proposed new test names. The advice from the DSI External Advisory Committee (EAC) may be submitted to the FDA and/or EMEA to substantiate the manufacturer’s decision to proceed with marketing its new drug product under the selected brand name.
